BESCA
The Booksin Elementary School Community Association (BESCA) is a parent and teacher organization that raises money solely for the enrichment of the students at Booksin Elementary School.
Revenues from our fundraiser directly support:
- School programs such as music, art, technology and science
- Field trips and other student enrichment
- Additional classroom supplies and learning materials for teachers
It is difficult to imagine our curriculum without this additional funding. We are very proud to be a California Distinguished School in the San Jose Unified School District. As parents, we know our support and involvement is required, and the 400+ volunteers we tap for the Walkathon know that they are working hard to make Booksin a great school.
Like a traditional PTA, parents and teachers work together to provide an enhanced school experience for every student. We look and feel like any school-associated group and we follow district guidelines in our actions and policies. Unlike a PTA, we are an independent, non-profit organization, incorporated since 1975 to simply serve the students of Booksin Elementary School.
We have traditionally worked to support enrichment programs like Music, Technology, Art, Library, Science, Physical Education, Cornerstone and in the last several years have also provided cash to classrooms for supplemental materials. We sponsor the Walkathon and other fundraising events to pay for this.
BESCA also focuses on creating a strong community at the school by sponsoring various activities as well. We are all focused on a great, cohesive school experience for students, parents and staff.
Who are the Members? All parents and guardians of enrolled students, teachers and staff are automatically members of BESCA. We have a Board of Directors and committee chair membership of roughly 30 people, taking the lead on fundraising, student enrichment programs, community events and organizational management. The current Board of Directors and their contact information is posted on the Booksin website.
Please feel free to come to one of our Board Meetings. Meetings are typically held the first or second Tuesday of each month except December and June.
The first meeting will be September 14th at 7pm in the cafeteria.
